Bukchon, known since ancient times as an aristocrat neighborhood, is home to all tile-roofed houses from the Joseon Dynasty, retaining the structural form of the upper class. It has been preserved until now. Originally, this neighborhood had only a few large houses with towering gates and about 30 hanoks, but it increased to its current state at the end of Japanese colonial rule and immediately after the Korean War. Bukchon Hanok Village is located between Gyeongbokgung Palace, Changdeokgung Palace, and Jongmyo Shrine and is a traditional residential area with 600 years of history in Seoul. A group of traditional hanoks are located close together between two huge palaces, and the numerous branch-shaped alleys are preserved as is, dramatically showing the scenery of a 600-year-old historical city. Nowadays, it is used as a traditional culture experience center and a Hanok restaurant, so it is a place where you can feel the atmosphere of the Joseon Dynasty indirectly.

This area has been composed of Wonseo-dong, Jaedong, Gye-dong, Gahoe-dong, and Insa-dong since ancient times. It was called 'Bukchon' from the name of the neighborhood above Cheonggyecheon and Jongno, and at the time, it was famous as a high-class residential district where high-ranking officials of the royal family or royal family lived. A few Hanoks that still remain here and there retain their reputation from that time. The sight of several Hanoks connecting their eaves and sharing walls with their neighbors makes us feel the warm affection and taste of living that we have forgotten. When walking around the Bukchon area, you can feel the warmth of the alleys as well as the beauty of the eaves. Care must be taken to ensure silent tourism so that Bukchon Hanok Village can become a sustainable tourist destination.

* Allowed time: 10 :00 ~17:00 (Weekdays, Saturdays) / Sunday: Alley day off
* Target area: Approximately 100m section around Bukchon-ro 11-gil

※ Silent tourism refers to visits to tourist attractions by outside tourists. It refers to a form of tourism in which people travel quietly without making a loud noise to avoid infringing on the residents' right to life and the environment.
