北漢山城は百済時代 (紀元前 18 ～ 西暦 660 年) の 132 年にケル王の治世下に初めて建設され、百済を高句麗軍から守る最北の要塞でした。 475年、激しい戦いの末、この要塞は高ギュリョの手に落ちました。その結果、ガエル王は殺害され、百済の王女は熊津城に逃亡した。城の崩壊と再建にもかかわらず、北漢山城は韓国の戦争の歴史を通して首都を守る重要な役割を果たし続けました。
