Gallery Seoul Museum of Art Artist Moon, Beom
Description of art The Moon Beom’s monochrome abstract paintings are characterized by unique independence in terms of aesthetic concept and visual element. The combination between the monotone surface and the texture of the pigment run down in part create to the viewers an illusion that they are put through a work of minimalist art, painting or sculpture, and continue to fall into a bottomless deep sea. In this painting the artist captures a world realizable in this world on a vacant and dreamlike space in a surrealist manner as if to contain a Korean traditional ink painting, reminding viewers of an ideal space located somewhere in their illusion. The artist did not fill the canvas to depict any specific landscape but rather wanted a spontaneous landscape which would be created by combining the canvas, pigment and the artist’s finger, one of the oldest painting tools. The subtle changes in color tones help create a mysterious space and capture properties of matter and moments of life. This monochrome abstract painting presents the beauty of order within chaos captured by the techniques designed to get access to the inner world of human beings.
