Description of art “Coca Killer” (2007) twists what Coca-Cola, a product representative of multinational capitalism and consumerism, stands for through humor and satire in his unique way. In this project, he replaced “Cola” with “Killer” in the brand name for the soda “Coca-Cola,” and created a neon sign, a familiar object in everyday life, to express the message that the logo branding of a multinational company?which goes beyond a physical referent and triggers fantasy and desire?is based on a myth that buying physical products can provide emotional satisfaction. Surely, drinking Coca-Cola, one of the causes for tooth decay and obesity, will not lead to death; however, by using the word “killer,” Kim discloses a code inherent in today’s capitalistic society?physical and psychological satisfaction brought on by purchasing Coca-Cola might kill consumers.
