Description of art | “Comparison of Size: B?52 vs. Bin Laden” (2002) depicts a B?52 bomber reduced to a tenth of its actual size along with a figure of Osama bin Laden to reveal the stark contrast between the sizes of the two. The B?52 bomber was used by the United States to attack Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden is seen as the mastermind behind the 9/11 terrorist attacks in New York. Bin Laden’s body is dwarfed by the massive size of the B-52 bomber. Through this piece, Joo tries to bluntly expose the irrationality and inequality in the political and social structure of modern society by visually showing the striking difference in physical size. Joo Jae-hwan was awarded the UNESCO Special Award at the 4th Gwangju Biennale for this piece in 2002. | ||||||
