Description of art | “My Village: December 1987” (1987), the last installment in the series, depicts a winter street in Daeseong-dong, Jeonju, North Jeolla Province. The restaurant and corner grocery store signs have faded in a matter of months, with the restaurant sign lying in the street as a snowstorm rages. The mountain in the background has already turned into a snowy peak and no one can be seen in the streets as a strong gust sweeps through the area. What happened to all the people in the village? The 13th president of the Republic of Korea has been elected through direct elections in December 1987 but the world remains unchanged. The heat of June earlier in the year is long gone and the cold streets of Daeseong-dong feel even colder than before, symbolizing the situation throughout Korea. | ||||||
