Description of art	“Nonorientable ？96?146” (1996) is a piece that transforms the eight trigrams, known as the archetype of the yin and yang shape, into a geometrical pattern. In this work, Kim tried to express the cyclical laws of the universe based on a Korean philosophy that dealt with the complementary relationship between heaven, earth, and people. Kim produced the “Nonorientable” series around the notion that he could not identify the inception of the universe because he did not know the order of what came first. Kim established a unique oeuvre through the use of abstract expression employing primary colors in which Korean philosophy takes precedence over traditional geometry.
