Description of art | 〈Buddha, Yangpyeong〉(2012) was taken in 2012, just before Kim Soohyun went to the U.S. He traveled around the cities and provinces of South Korea to take pictures of ordinary yet unique scenes. His subjects during this period vary widely, ranging from the living room photos of a middle-class family to the walls of a declining farmhouse. South Korean society has often alienated and excluded people while prioritizing economic growth and development. Kim Soohyun captured these awkward and bizarre scenes from society in his photography. One of them is a huge Buddha statue he found in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi-do. The Buddha does not seem to belong to the location, yet it does belong there, as the natural appearance of this Buddha suffering the effects of time illustrates. | ||||||
