Manjanggul Cave, located in Gimnyeong-ri, Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si, has a total length of approximately 7,400 m, a maximum height of approximately 25 m, and a maximum width of approximately 18 m. It is a lava tube belonging to the Geomun Oreum Lava Tube System (Hwang Sang-gu et al., 2005), which is a part of Jeju World Natural Heritage. In particular, the main passage is 18m wide and 23m high, making it one of the largest caves in the world. There are many lava caves distributed around the world, but lava caves like Manjanggul Cave, which were formed hundreds of thousands of years ago and whose internal shape and topography are well preserved, are rare and have great academic and conservation value. Manjanggul Cave has three entrances formed by the collapse of the ceiling in the middle of the cave. Currently, the second entrance is open to the public, and only 1km of the cave can be explored. Within Manjanggul Cave, various lava cave formations such as lava types, lava stalagmites, lava flowstones, lava streamlines, lava shelves, and lava stones are developed. In particular, the lava stone column, approximately 7.6m high, which can be seen at the end of the open section, is the largest in the world. It is known for its scale.
