JEJU-DO WEATHER
Jeju Jeolmul Natural Recreation Forest opened on July 23, 1997, beneath the crater of a parasitic volcano in Bonggae-dong, Jeju-si. In a total area of 300ha, 30-45 year old cedar trees are the main species, with 200ha of artificial forest and 100ha of natural forest. The walking paths and shade spaces created in the cedar and pine forest plantations are in perfect harmony with the cool breeze blowing from the sea, allowing you to feel the refreshing chill even in the middle of summer. Cedar trees, which are the main tree species in the recreational forest, were planted in this area after removing undergrowth in the mid-1960s. This excellent cedar plantation area has been developed into a natural recreation forest, providing a famous forest rest area that is visited by the most people in the country.
The recreational forest is equipped with various facilities such as walking trails, mineral springs, waterfalls, ponds, lawn squares, woodcraft experience centers, exercise facilities, children's play facilities, and lodging facilities, so you can spend a cozy time with your family or lovers. The trail is relatively gentle, has a low incline, and has no stairs, so even the weak and children can use it comfortably, and even wheelchair users can use it if accompanied by a guardian. Jeolmul Oreum, a parasitic volcano, is 697 meters above sea level, and a round trip to the top is possible in about an hour. There is an observatory at the top of Jeolmul Oreum where you can see the horseshoe-shaped crater. On a good day, you can see Seongsan Ilchulbong to the east, Musucheon, the largest river in Jeju to the west, and Jeju City to the north.
The mineral spring, which never dries up no matter how dry the day is, is said to have special effects on neuralgia and gastrointestinal diseases, and the water quality is tested quarterly in Jeju Island and once a month in Jeju City. The water is clean and flows all year round. It boasts an abundant amount of water, so much so that even when all the wells in the neighborhood dried up during a drought during the Joseon Dynasty, residents used it as drinking water. A variety of animals and plants live within the recreational forest. In addition to cedar, which is the main species of the recreational forest, trees such as pine, cherry, and wild mulberry, as well as various types of herbs such as deodeok and drupe, are also distributed, and various birds such as great spotted woodpeckers, crows, and warblers. It lives here, and you can see roe deer grazing at dawn and dusk. There are many tourist attractions near the recreation forest, including the Ecological Forest, Roe Deer Ecological Observation Center, Saryeoni Forest Trail, 43 Peace Park, and Stone Culture Park.
