The Jeam-ri March 1st Independence Movement Memorial Hall is a quiet rural village located about 20km southwest of Suwon. Also called Dureungbawi Rock, this place became a leader in the independence movement when its residents held a fierce demonstration at Balan Market during the March 1st Independence Movement in 1919. After obtaining the personnel list, about 30 Japanese military police gathered residents at Jeam Church around 2 PM on April 15, locked all the doors, imprisoned them, set fire to the church, and then fired indiscriminately at the church, killing 23 people. It is a place where the sorrow and soul of our ancestors, who burned down about 30 houses, are buried. 63 years after the Jeam-ri massacre, the remains that had been buried in a flat grave at Doiri Cemetery, 4km away from the village, were excavated and buried in a sunny place in the hill behind Jeam Church. A residence was prepared, and monuments, exhibition halls, and education center sculptures were installed to commemorate this fact for future generations, and it is being used as a living education center to awaken the spirit of love for the country.
