统营海底隧道于 1931 年至 1932 年历时 16 个月建成，是亚洲第一条海底隧道。建造时，海水被两端堵住，隧道挖在地下，并用混凝土铺设。长483米、宽5米的隧道入口处刻有韩文“龙门达梁”，意思是“连接岛屿和陆地的海底隧道的入口”。
