위봉사는 무인양문(무지개문)과 위봉마을을 지나 위치한 사찰로, 한때 52개의 사찰을 총괄했던 호남지역의 대표적인 사찰이다. 604년(백제 무왕 5) 서암대사가 창건했다고 전하며, 현재 남아 있는 건물은 조선시대의 것이다. 현재는 보광명전(보물 제608호)과 요사(도문화재 제698호), 삼성각만 남아 있다. 특히 백의관음보살벽화는 사찰의 자랑이다.
