JEJU-DO WEATHER
When you first set foot in Jeju, if you're lucky, the first thing you'll notice is Hallasan Mountain rising in a majestic form in the distance. Even if the weather is not very good, the sight of Hallasan Mountain rising above the hazy, hazy island of Jeju when viewed through an airplane window or from the deck of a ship makes you wonder if Jeju is truly a fantasy island.

Spring Jeju is where news comes first. Spring in Jeju must have already begun on a cold winter day with a cold wind blowing from the land. However, even though Jeju is the first place where spring begins, it is only when yellow rape flowers bloom that you can truly feel the atmosphere of spring in windy Jeju. Spots where colorful rape flowers are in full bloom can be seen anywhere on Jeju Island, but among them, Seopjikoji on the east coast of Jeju, on the east side of Hallasan Mountain, is a place that cannot be missed when traveling to Jeju in April due to its amazing coastal scenery and fields of yellow rape flowers in full bloom. It shows the scenery. Seongsan Ilchulbong, a well-known scenic spot, is located just a stone's throw away, so the beauty of Seopjikoji on a spring day is less bright, but thanks to that, the tranquility and romantic charm of this place are even more memorable for travelers.

Seopjikoji, as can be seen from the name Koji (Jeju dialect meaning Koji Cape), is a landform with a protruding tip shaped like a nose tree. Location-wise, it protrudes from the coast of Shinyang-ri, Seongsan-eup, Seogwipo-si. It is not that easy to get to for outsiders, but in most cases, you can reach the end of Koji by entering the village from the Shinyang-ri coastal national highway, looking at the sign, and following the concrete road. Or, if you are coming from Seogwipo, go about 7km past downtown Pyoseon and you will see a sign for the coastal road on the right. Turn right here and drive along the sea all the way while looking at the panoramic view of Seopjikoji. Soon you will see the white sandy beach of Shinyang Beach and when you reach the village, turn right. Just follow the concrete road.

As you pass through Shinyang-ri Village, the leisurely scenery of Shinyang Beach, with its clean and fine sand, is on the right. When you reach a spacious area and come to the parking management office, the road to Koji divides into two. The road on the left runs along the northern coast of Koji, and throughout the approximately 1.5 km section, you can see Jeju's unique black stone beach and the majestic sight of the huge Seongsan crater over the rolling sea. On the other hand, if you follow the road on the right side of the southern coast of Koji, you can see yellow rape flowers here and there, as well as the idyllic scenery of Jeju ponies leisurely grazing on the grass on the hill. After about 2.5km, the road ends and you face the wide Jeju sea. I do it. Meanwhile, the end of this southern coastal road is a large plaza, and there are shops selling seafood such as raw fish and seafood lined up around it, so you can enjoy gourmet food while admiring the scenery. However, the best part of a trip to Seopjikoji is to climb the hill at the end of Koji, walk through the dazzling rapeseed fields, and see the spectacular coastal scenery of Seopjikoji and the huge elephant-shaped Seongsan Ilchulbong in front of you.

In particular, the rape flowers here are more vivid and beautiful than anywhere else, going well with the bright sunlight and blue sea. On top of the wide and flat Koji Hill, there is a stone beacon tower called Hyeopyeondae, which used to light a beacon fire in the old days. It is about 4m high and 9m wide and square, and is relatively preserved in its original form. The peak rising northeast from Yeondae is also known as Red Oreum. , It is an Oreum made of red volcanic ash called Song in Jeju, and the sight of the white lighthouse standing at the top evokes another exotic atmosphere in contrast with the yellow rape flower fields, the red earth of the Oreum, and the blue sky and sea color. There are iron stairs up to the lighthouse, so you can easily climb up. If you climb up on the railing of the lighthouse, the amazing coastal scenery of Seopjikoji unfolds right in front of you. Among them, the candlestick-shaped rock sticking out from the bottom of the cliff is a menhir with a legend of the sad unrequited love between the son of the Dragon King and a fairy from heaven. The top of its head, which rises toward the sky, is completely covered in white seagull droppings, making it look like a person. It is even more eye-catching because it looks like it has white eyes.

From the top of Red Oreum, you can see the panoramic view of Seopjikoji as well as Seongsan Ilchulbong at a glance. Moreover, if you stand in the middle of a wide field here when rape flowers are in season in April, you may feel like you have become the main character in a movie without even realizing it. When you get off the hill, you can go back the way you came, but if you don't have a car, you can cross the rape flower fields, get down on the road north of Koji on the other side, and leisurely walk back. However, there are dangerous cliffs from the top of Koji Hill towards the sea, so be careful not to slip, and be careful not to slip on the downhill red clay road south of the lighthouse. It takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes on foot to park your car at the parking management office and walk around Seopjikoji. If you are not in a hurry, I recommend taking a walk as if you were on a picnic rather than driving by. In addition, it is a good idea to visit Jeju Folk Village and Udo Island near Seopjikoji. Meanwhile, the place on Jeju Island that appears the most in movies is Seopjikoji. ‘Danjeokbi Yeonsu’, ‘Lee Jae-su’s Rebellion’, ‘A Thousand and One Nights’, and the drama ‘All In’ were filmed in Seopjikoji next to Seongsan Ilchulbong.
