JEJU-DO WEATHER
Gwaneumsa Temple, the headquarters of the 23rd Diocese of the Jogye Order of Korean Buddhism, located at the foot of Hallasan Mountain 650m, is the center of Jeju Buddhism, overseeing over 30 temples on Jeju Island. The source of its power can be found in Jeju's Buddhist history.

In various myths, legends, and folktales of Jeju, Gwaneumsa Temple is called Goenamjeol (Gwaneumsa in Jeju dialect), Gaenamjeol, Donggoenamjeol, and Eunjungjeol. It is said to be disseminated to the private sector. There is a record of Gwaneumsa Temple in 『Sinjeung Donggukyeoji Deungram』, a geography book from the reign of King Seongjong of Goryeo, and there is also a record of it being a temple that existed during the Joseon Dynasty. Then, in 1702, when the rulers of Joseon, who had adopted Confucianism as their national governing ideology, all temples in the Jeju region were destroyed by Pastor Lee Hyeong-sang, Gwaneumsa Temple also disappeared.

Maintaining Mingmaek Buddhism for 200 years, in 1908 It was rebuilt by the monk Anbongryeo-gwan in 1988. Despite the difficulties faced by local opposition, the monk prayed for three years at Haewolgul Cave and completed the construction of the temple and temple. Subsequently, Buddhist statues and paintings were brought in from places such as Tongyeong Yeonghwasa Temple, and the temple was given the appearance of a proper temple.

Once the construction of the Buddhist temple, which had the appearance of a temple, was completed, Daegaksa Temple, a missionary temple in the city, was built on Jungang-ro, the center of Jeju, to connect with the people of Jeju and We carry out active missionary work together. As a result, Buddhism in Jeju, which had been cut off for a long time, began to revive around Gwaneumsa Temple.

However, in 1939, as the main temple and other buildings burned down, Gwaneumsa Temple also fell into the vortex of history. I fall in love with it. Subsequently, during the Jeju April 3 Incident in 1948, the location of Gwaneumsa Temple was a strategic point, so the punitive force and the armed forces entering the mountain fiercely confronted each other around Gwaneumsa Temple, and in the process, all of Gwaneumsa Temple's buildings were burned down.

As the ban on climbing Hallasan was lifted, starting in 1969, starting with Daeungjeon, Seonbang, Yeongsanjeon, Haewolgak, Four Heavenly Kings Gate, Iljumun, and Jonggak were gradually restored to their current appearance.
